A shorter week for the Potato as it was supposed to be one of the more boring weeks of the college football season, but nothing is ever easy in college football.

Possibly the parity comment from last week means there really are no true elite teams this year and a lot of upsets are brewing.

Georgia was down 11 at half? Michigan struggled against Bowling Green? Florida St. survived against Boston College? Texas game was dicey? Alabama doesn’t even know who its quarterback is and barely won against SF?

The list could go on and on… we just don’t know right now who is the best team. And that’s really a good thing as the season hits the best week of the year as we have 6 games of top 25 teams playing each other, and a lot more of other great matchups.

Buckle up – it’s going to be a dandy!

As for Michigan – there’s something just a tad off with this team right now. I’m not saying we need to put up 70 every week, but not breaking the 40s after 3 weeks is a bit puzzling.

Sure, most of the games were garbage time after 3 quarters, but our 2nd strings have struggled, our QB looked bad for the first time maybe ever (TCU game he made some bad throws, but wasn’t “bad”)… and even our running game just hasn’t had the big pushes regularly like we did last year.

McCarthy needs to learn how to move forward when there is a pass rush, he still plays high school ball trying to run around the edge which to his credit has worked so far for the most part, but definitely won’t work at the next level.

I’m not in panic mode yet, but the big boys are coming and they are coming fast. I think Rutgers will be more of a test than folks think and it’s going to be a tough game this weekend. Sure, we should win, but this isn’t a fluffy easy win game like the first three – we will have to play a decent game to beat Rutgers as they are a well-coached Schiano team with a bit less talent.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL IN A BREEZE

  • Notre Dame vs Ohio State – Game of the week. Wow. This one really is a season ender I believe for both. Loser will not win out. I like Norte Dame here in a tight one.

  • Florida St. vs Clemson - Everything says to take Florida State here which is why Clemson is the play.

  • Colorado vs Oregon - Oregon should win here comfortably, but I like Colordo to cover with some late scores.

  • UCLA vs Utah - This line is tricky and Utah hasn’t looked great and UCLA has looked pretty good. I think this will be tight but Utah will cover with a late score.

  •  Ole Miss vs Alabama - Bama has the right QB starting and Ole Miss isn’t very good. Take Bama and they should win by 10.

  • Iowa vs Penn St. - The believer game. I believe in PSU, but I think Iowa will do just enough to hang around and cover the spread.

MICHIGAN -24 vs RUTGERS PREDICTION: (3-0 so far) 34-17 - this game will be ugly, but let’s win and move on. Can Rutgers just call themselves the University of New Jersey, already? It’s a way better name that will help the school attract better students - most folks don’t even know where Rutgers is still!

Mortal Lock (2-1 so far): Georgia Tech had it and gave it away in the 4th quarter! This week give me Iowa St.
